Responsibilities and Achievements:
As a HPC Specialist, my main job duties were to:-Project reference:-Galactic Computing Corp.: 281 nodes with GT4000, all compute nodes are diskless (rated #100 in the Top500.org)-Beijing military medicine research center: 132 nodes for genetics, molecular dynamics, bio-informatics,computer-assisted drug design (largest biological research HPC in China)-Chinese Academy of Sciences: 72 nodes for metal research (largest metal research HPC in China)-Hong Kong Observatory: 32 nodes for weather forecasting, all compute nodes are stateless (diskless);-Hong Kong International Airport: 14 nodes with 2 storages at airport are fully HA.-HK Secondary school 1st Phase: 24 nodes for rendering farm-HK Secondary school 2nd Phase: 55 nodes for rendering farm-write tenders for HPC and cluster solutions;-implement the HPC and cluster solutions and provide technical support and troubleshooting to the customers;-perform hardware and software optimization, benchmark and testing base on the InfiniBand technology;-provide professional consultation to customers about clustering technologies such as high availability (HA), high performance (HPC) and load balancing;-developed a HPC system including a management system, cluster status monitor, job scheduler and resources manager. The system supports stateless (diskless/diskful) boot of the compute nodes.-developed a very small Linux system in a disk-on-module (DOM), so that the whole Linux OS will run in the memory. The DOM can be installed in the storage as controller.-attend trainings, exhibitions and conferences related to HPC;-provide internal and external trainings about HPC and new technologies;-notify the pioneer technology about HPC and new hardware, e.g. CPU architecture, network connection, storage, motherboard, etc;-have business travel to different cities in Mainland China, e.g. Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Xian, Hong Kong and Taiwan, etc;-supervise some engineers to develop and test HPC applications. One of our clusters was joined to the Hong Kong Grid and thus I have some knowledge about Grid computing. As an administrator of the once fastest academic PC Cluster in Hong Kong, my main responsibility is to:- manage the high performance cluster;- write and teach MPI programs and some other parallel applications to undergraduates and postgraduates;- do datamining researches;- maintain the cluster websites;- visit other universities, attend conferences and exchange the experience
