Outdoors activities

I'll guess that you are probably looking for "ideas" and not "ideals", as in principles, morals, ethics...

Just speaking from a newbie's perception and a marketing and design background, I'd say these types of 'off-topic' forums have trouble on any site. It's likely because archery is a specific subject matter and people come here to glean and share information specific to archery.

The great outdoors is a broad and deep subject and too general to appeal to a lot of folks. I know one typical information architecture solution is to add sub navigation to try to add specific areas of interest. But then, by design, this pushes the content further out of site of the casual visitor and browsing experience. Folks like their threads to be read and to easily find the latest threads replied to by other members.

It takes only a few minutes in some cases for a thread in here to become hidden and fall below the fold for the visitor looking in the "New Posts" forum/view. Poof! it's gone and thus it dies. Not too attractive to the poster.

This happens with users of all interactive systems. So, it's not that the content isn't interesting or that you need to change "what" you post. You may need to consider "how" you post display it.

I'll think about this for a bit as well and post up any ideas I might have. Good thread!
